K2 Basecamp Trek

K2, the second highest mountain in the world, is a must-visit destination for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Towering at 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) above sea level, K2 is located in the breathtaking Karakoram Range of Pakistan. Known as the “Savage Mountain” due to its extreme difficulty and unpredictable weather, K2 offers a thrilling challenge for seasoned mountaineers. The journey to its base camp is an adventure in itself, featuring rugged landscapes, pristine glaciers, and a glimpse into the rich culture of the local Balti people. Whether you’re an experienced climber or a trekking enthusiast, K2 promises an unforgettable experience in one of the most remote and awe-inspiring regions of the world.

Itinerary

  • Islamabad Airport to Skardu Airport by Air (by your own)
  • (If unable to fly, same day drive to Skardu via Karakorum Highway, spending a night at Hotel)
  • SKARDU (HOTEL)
  • (Emergency day in case, flight does not operate on day 02, this day will be used to wait for the members coming by road to Skardu. Total drive time from Islamabad to Skardu is 22-24 hours.)
  • SKARDU -TO- ASKOLE (3,050m)
  • (08-09 Hrs jeep ride from Skardu. There will be lunch break at Dasu Lunch Site after 4-5 Hrs. Then we move to Askole, which is the last village before Baltoro Glacier Trek.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • ASKOLE TO JHULA/JULA (3,200m)
  • (5 – 6 Hrs Trekking from Askole to Jhula. It takes us 3 hours to reach at Lunch Site and 2 more hours to reach Jhula camp site. Second half of trek was narrow trek along the river on right and mountains on left.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • JHULA -TO- PAIJU (3,450m)
    (07-08 Hrs Trekking from Jhula to Paiju. It may be a hectic day.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • Option 1

    (07-08 Hrs Trekking from Jhula to Paiju. It may be a hectic day.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • Option 2
  • PAIJU -TO- KHUBURSE (3,700 m)
  • (07-08 Hrs Trekking, another hectic day. After half an hour trek from Paiju camp, we will be at the snout of Baltoro Glacier. This is where you can see Trango Towers. Uli Baiho and Paju Peak. The trek will take on the high and downs of Baltoro glacier from here ahead. 4 to 5 hours’ trek will take us to Liligo, where we will take our lunch in front of Trango towers. The walk will continue to the Khuburse camp along the right edge of Baltoro Glacier.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • KHUBURSE -TO- URDUKAS (3,990m)
  • (02:30 – 03 Hrs Trek. It is an easy day. After an early breakfast, cross the Khuburse torrent early morning and ramble over two glacier moraines to reach the grassy slopes of Urdukas. This is the last camp before glacial camps on Baltoro Glacier and the shortest day while Baltoro Glacier or k2 Base camp trek. The camp is located at a higher location above Baltoro Glacier and provides the best view of the Granite spire Trango, Uli Biaho, and Cathedrals.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • URDUKAS -TO- GOROII (4,380m)
  • (On this day of the k2 base camp trek, members trek in the middle of Baltoro Glacier through the rough moraines. Masherbrum peak is visible on the right side and Muztagh on the left. This day we get first distant sight of Gasherbrum’s and Broad Peak. 3-4 hours’ trek on the glacier we will take our lunch and rest for a while at GORO-I. After lunch, we will resume the trek and it will take 3-4 hours to GORO II and Camp overnight in front of Masherbrum. Goro 2 is a windy and cold campsite this is our first camping at Baltoro Glacier)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • GORO-II TO CONCORDIA (4,620m)
  • (Concordia no doubt is one of the best campsites on the planet, also known as the “throne room of mountains gods”. Surrounded by sky kissing giant peaks as Marble peak, K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum 3, Mitre peak, Baltoro Kangri, Sia Kangri, and Chogolisa. Concordia is the junction of Baltoro, Godwin Austin, Gasherbrum, and Vigne Glaciers. After a 5-6 hours’ trek on the Baltoro glacier from Goro 2, we will reach Concordia.)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • CONCORDIA or K2 Basecamp (5,100m).
  • (This day we have a flexible schedule most of the trekkers want a closer look at k2 and want to visit Gilkey Memorial while most prefer to hike to Broad Peak Base camp and back to Concordia on the same day and some just want to stay at Concordia to enjoy the 360-degree view of mountains around. We have a whole day to fully absorb the wilderness of the “Throne Room of Mountain Gods”. Trekkers would choose the option they prefer)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • Trek back to GORO-I
  • (Today we will return to GORO-I via the same route that we have followed while going to k2 Base camp)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • Trek back to KHUBURSE
  • (Today we will resume the trek back to Khuburse camp through the rough terrain of Baltoro Glacier)
  • Overnight in tents. All meals served by camp staff.
  • Trek back to Paiju
  • (Today we will resume the trek back to Paiju camp through the rough terrain of Baltoro Glacier)
  • Trek back to Jhula
  • (Today we will resume the trek back to Jhula camp.)
  • Trek back to Askole and drive back to Skardu (Hotel)
  • (Today we will resume the trek back to Askole camp. We will take jeeps already waiting for us from Askoli village to Skardu)
  • Overnight in Skardu Hotel. All meals will be served by staff.
  • SKARDU Airport to – ISLAMABAD Airport
    Early in the morning fly to Islamabad, if unable to fly same day drive to Chilas Overnight hotel. And next day drive to Islamabad
